Hi everyone,

Sam here! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on this blog. Don’t worry. Cozy Commons hasn’t been tossed into the forgotten bin to never see the light of day again. In fact, I’m working on bringing you all a newer and better Cozy Commons. I’m working tirelessly on this along with school and work so it is taking me some time to get everything ready. I hope you all are ready to see the new and improved Cozy Commons.

Stocking Up on Library Books

Library Books

There’s nothing like going to the public library. I’ve wrote about libraries before on this blog, so I won’t go on and on about my own appreciation for them.  I managed to find a few more hidden gems on this trip.

First Impression – Legon Awakening: Book One in the Legon Series by Nicholas Taylor

Title: Legon Awakening: Book One in the Legon Series

Author: Nicholas Taylor

Original Book Description

Set in a world that is not our own, Legon Awakening takes you through an epic journey into a land full of wonderment, illusion, and innovation.

Legon is a simple young man in the small town of Salmont, a town in the center of the Empire that few know about and even fewer care about. First Impression

You should never judge a book by its cover…Judge it by its first chapter! Yep, those first few pages are the most important ones.  They give readers a sense of what the book is about and will either help the book sink or swim.  That’s why I created this category called First Impression for my blog. So how does this work?

I will read the first chapter of a book and review it based on my impression of it.   (The ranking that I came up with is only for the first chapter and does not reflect the book’s overall quality.)

Ranking based on a scale of 1-5.

1- Dreadful. The chapter was extremely difficult to read and had many errors within it.

2- Bad. The chapter was better but still had error and was boring.

3- Good. The chapter was okay but had a few dull spots.

4- Great. The chapter was enjoyable to read.

5- Excellent. Did not want to put the book down.

Each review will end with a Final Verdict.

Final Verdict:

The First Page: 1-5

Characters: 1-5

1- Very 1 dimensional characters, 5-Characters are fleshed out and real.

Plot: 1-5

1-Very boring plot that does not flow well and is not believable, 5- Amazing plot that keeps me wanting to read more.

Would I continue reading it? Yes/No (Not part of the ranking)
Would I recommend it? Yes/No (Not part of the ranking)

Overall Impression: 1-5

The Shepard’s Pie Experience

I wrote this short story for an assignment in my Expository class, and I enjoyed writing this so much that I decided to post it on my blog.  It originally an essay for an assignment that asked the class to review instructions for whatever activity we selected. I decided to go with a recipe.  After that assignment was completed, we were asked to change our paper. I decided to change my essay into a narrative.  My professor said that we could write fiction.  Unfortunately, my story is all too real to be fiction.
